What's Your Signature Scent?

What's Your Signature Scent?

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.
And walk in love as Christ also has loved us, and given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Ephesians 5:1-2

A sweet smelling aroma.

What are your favorite scents?

I love fragrances. Anything from home baked bread fresh out of the oven to the fragrance of a gentle Spring rain. The list goes on and on.
When we get to experience different aromas they can do one of two things. They can either appeal to us or turn us off.

Jesus gave Himself FOR US an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Jesus sacrificed His life so that we may have Eternal Life. He offered Himself for you and me.

~ Have we offered ourselves wholeheartedly to the Lord?

~ Have we surrendered our lives to Him?

~ What have we sacrificed for our Lord?

It’s true that the Lord desires obedience above sacrifice. But what becomes a result of being obedient to Him? Sacrifice. When we desire to be obedient to Him, a result of that is sacrificing our wills and our wants for His will.

This morning I called our pup Cookie in from outside. When she came in she was looking for a treat, typical :) I told her that obedience is not about treats, it is about obedience. Then Michael and I went on to discuss that obedience is not about being blessed, it is about being obedient which brings about blessings from serving our Father.

There is NONE LIKE HIM who sustains us.

Ecclesiastes 10:1a
Dead flies putrefy the perfumer’s ointment and give off a foul odor.

Dead flies putrefy. YUK! Not a very pretty picture, but when the world takes the place of our Lord and when we allow sin to creep in that is exactly what our aroma is. Putrefying.

Think on these questions…

~ Have we let sin corrupt our aroma?

~ Does the aroma we give off that of Jesus or of the world?

~ Do others find this aroma appealing and desire it too?

Tis such a joy to be considered pleasing to my Lord, but it doesn’t end here…
When we are obedient to Him, the aroma that precedes us will be a sweet-smelling aroma.

It is my desire that we would all have a sweet-smelling aroma. The aroma of Christ so that:

*Those who do not yet know the Lord would be attracted to Him.

and…

*Those who do know Jesus would desire an even closer more intimate relationship with Him.

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.
2 Corinthians 2:14-17

When we have surrendered to God and are obedient to God, He manifests Himself through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.

I don’t know about you, but I want Jesus to be my Signature Scent  :)

Our Prayer…

Heavenly Father, oh Lord we praise You for loving us like you do. For being the Almighty, the Everlasting, the Alpha and the Omega. We come to you with humble hearts Lord asking that we would desire to be a sweet smelling aroma for You and to You. Lord, we ask that you would show us the “flies” that need to be removed from our lives so that will never, ever misrepresent You. Lord Jesus, You are so gracious to us and we pray that others may see that in us and desire the fragrance of Christ in their lives. We pray these things in your Most precious and sweet Son’s Name…Amen.
